As is our custom, day 1 in a new place usually means we arrange a walking tour. In many places, just Google “Free Walking Tour” and you’ll find a marvelous adventure.
Our first day in Hoi An, Vietnam we took a walking tour with Harry Vu, a local tourism pro, yoga instructor, and the most energetic/positive person we have met in ages. This was a paid tour through Aribnb Experiences. It was worth lots more than we paid.
This is a rough sequence of our amazing first day in a lovely, friendly place, with smiling helpful people, and food so good that the only thing you want to do is eat.
View from our balcony at 6AM, Day 1 Hoi An.
Sunrise over the rice fields.
River Boats getting ready for Tet (New Year) celebrations.
Crazy Drivers everywhere.
Baskets onboard!
Harry, Bev, John – Let the walk begin!
Flowers for Tet.
Bev sampling bean sprouts grown in this families backyard. They grow 100 Kilos per day.
Bev getting her hand caught in the Mouth of a Dragon outside a family Temple.
John and the Bean Sprout Mama.
Scooter Mom and passengers.
Quick picture after yet another meal at a local restaurant.
Street Sweet. This is a pudding made from sweet potatoes and Black Sesame Seeds with a little sugar.
Adorable Girl in Red Eating Crackers.
Two kids giving us directions.
A much deserved local beer (Larue) with Harry after a full 3 hour walking tour. It is so awesome when someone loves what they do so much that they overdeliver on value.

If you are ever in Hoi An, Vietnam (and we hope you come here someday) please consider the walking tour with Harry Vu. We don’t recomend these things often. This one was special.
See you on the road,
Bev and John

Caring for two dogs in a small village in a foreign country can be daunting. But, not for us. We have done it before, As International Trusted House Sitters we get to make new friends with all sorts of critters. The best part, however, is making new human friends.
We have rented our home and gotten rid of most of our “stuff” so we could explore the world, unencumbered. Join us as we explore how to live like locals without it costing a fortune.
About Bev & John
We have rented our home and rid ourselves of most of our “collection of stuff” so we could explore the world, unencumbered. Join us as we learn how to live like locals, throughout the world, without it costing a fortune.
We got rid of most of our "stuff" and rented our home so we could explore the world unencumbered. Pet sitting has enhanced our journey geometrically.
